Proposition 65 , The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires businesses to provide warnings about significant exposures to chemicals that are known to the State of California cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. An exemption from the warning requirement is provided by the Act when it can be demonstrated that product exposure is at or below “safe harbor levels”; that is, the levels pose no significant risk of cancer or birth defects/reproductive harm.
